Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli - 8/10/2002
Aug. 10th, 2002 01:02 pmStargirl is the new girl at Mica Arizana High School. Her unusual behavior extends beyond her name. She brings a tablecloth, a vase and flower to put on her desk in every class. She plays ukelele and sings to every person in the school on their birthday. She keeps a pet rat.
The students at MAHS are first confused by her behaviour, then delighted by her enthusiasm, and finally disgusted by her unwillingness to conform to their standards. Leo, average member of the student body, narrates the story of the strange year Stargirl came to MAHS and changed their lives.
Stargirl is a fable.
Stargirl is a fairytale.
Stargirl is the best book to be written on the issue of the mercurial nature of teenage popularity.
Overall rating - B (****) I enjoyed this book thoroughly and highly recommend it to anyone.
