Summer Summary
Sep. 14th, 2004 08:34 amBad pun: (Summery)
This year I broke up with a boyfriend of 4 years and left New York after 3 years to return to my hometown of Squaresville in Colorado. I arrived around the Spring Equinox, spent several months being unemployed and working as a freelance photo researcher. Then I decided it was time to think about employment, so I registered with a temp agency and have been in work ever since.
My first job was as a toilet recall specialist. There had been a faulty part ("ballcock" hee-hee) installed in a number of toilets in brand new homes and it was my job to call homeowners and ask them to look in their toilets and tell me what color the part was so we knew whether or not to send a plumber. ("You can do a visual check or a taste test...") The toilet recall was genuine, but the work was like making prank phonecalls all day.
I got along at the toilet recall place okay, but I was later hired (temp-to-hire) by an educational publishing company. After almost two months at the educational publishers I'm starting to think the toilet job was preferable. The past few weeks have been particuarly trying as my workmate has been on her honeymoon and I'm taking care of five bosses all on my own. This is not a good week to ask me if I like my job.
More summery:
* My mom arrived for a visit around July 4. She left six weeks later.
* after a brief fling this spring, I have been in a Rebound Free Zone. My friend Amethyst promised me a "Male Aspect of Summer." He has a few days left to make an appearance.
* Everyone in the world has decided to get married. My life has been taken over by other people's weddings. (More on this subject later.)
* I had my 10 year high school reunion, which was a lot of fun mostly because my best friend Leila was there.
Anyway, there's lots to catch up on, but I felt like I needed a transitional entry before I start up again.
