What's a girl to do?
Nov. 17th, 2004 11:38 pmToday was much better than yesterday, though yesterday was one of the worst days I've had since I moved back from New York. Which is actually telling you how great my life is, for the most part, because as unpleasant as yesterday was, in the greater scheme of things, it's no big deal. Thank you all for your votes of confidence. I carried that confidence with me today and it made everything a lot easier to handle.
Got to work early and made copies for the first four hours. Took a chai break, then came back for an afternoon of rushing around after boss' whims.
Focus group went okay. Actually, it went really well, but that's what I thought Monday, before I got reamed the next morning. We were looking at two math texts. The first is one of our products being considered for revisions. The group didn't like it at all. Quite frankly, neither did I. The second was a very innovative concept oriented math text. It was really cool. I'm not much of a math person; but this guy's diagrams made it really accessible for me. It started me drawing connections between a lot of concepts that never made sense before.
It didn't hurt that I was surrounded by very enthusiastic math people, "We love math," they gushed.
"So do I!" I gushed back. And then I thought. "No I don't. I hate math, this must be a contact high."
What I do love is learning. I also love people who are passionate about their work. It gave quite a lift to an otherwise difficult day.
As for the logistics; well I have one hilarious story to report. My boss who was adamantly against the open-faced sandwiches ordered deviled eggs in their stead. Not only did no one touch them due the questionable nature of how long they'd been sitting out; they stunk up the whole room, and everyone kept commenting on the gassy smell. I thought it was very funny.
