More growth ahead
Dec. 27th, 2005 08:01 amI've been off the web since last Thursday, when I came home to discover my computer had caught an enormous virus. Viral scan software was not effective. It was so far gone that by the time I tried to install the new version, it wouldn't load. My brother had the bright idea of stripping the computer and reloading the operating system. Sadly, it's a hand-me-down computer, and we don't have the software registration number. We have a couple other things we can try, but I'm feeling pretty fatalistic about the whole thing.
Whose fault is it? Well, there is perhaps not a direct causal relationship between my mother using my computer and the virus, but there is certainly a very strong correlation.
I haven't written since I can't remember when. Last Wednesday I had a wonderful evening with
vyrin. Thursday I went with my mom and some friends went on starlit carriage rides around Squareville's old neighborhoods, followed by hot cocoa. (With cute cowboys!) Friday, Kaia had her annual Yule party, which wasn't as dreadful as feared. Saturday was given to Xmas prep. And Sunday was the actual day. One of my mom's friends joined us for the feast. Yesterday we were all supposed to go iceskating, but my mother wasn't feeling well, so my brother and I ran errands.
And today I'm back at work. My Xmas was nice, but entirely too short.
Best Christmas Gift: Nathan dubbed some of my favorite records onto CD, including Roar of Love a Narnia concept album.
Books: Several volumes by Karen Armstrong, a rhyming dictionary, and a book of cooking chemistry.
I Got What I Asked For: watercolor pencils, a glass ornament, the rhyming dictionary.
Boring Stuff I Needed: A new bathrobe.
Unexpectedly touched: Some lovely cards from friends, Leila's surprise quilt. Paperdolls from my Secret Santa.
I was so happy to see my family, but I sense more growth ahead. Please let the lessons be more pleasant and easier to learn than in 2005.
