I agree, but the author is more articulate and has better research in support of her opinions.
In my field, I'm an anomaly as someone who never did an internship. I'm also an anomaly in that I worked my way through college.
I've always felt internships reinforce a system of privelege. They are for people who can afford to work for free, and whose families can pay their living expenses.
It seems ridiculous to me that not only is college becoming increasingly (and prohibitively) expensive, but that many careers are difficult to get into without an internship, or a special "institute" degree, adding another layer of prohibition.
