Spiritual Cinema Circle
Aug. 9th, 2006 07:51 amI thought the following might amuse some of you:

I have to say it kind of irritates me. It may not be Jesus and the Moneychangers, or Martin Luther and the 95 Theses, but contemporary American "spirituality" (reeking strongly of self-help) is definitely for sell.
This is one of the things that bothers me about "yoga moms" (who currently embody a number of things I am ashamed to say I find deeply upsetting, and are revealing about my attitudes towards my current life circumstances). Spiritual and physical well-being aren't just for the rich, they're for everyone.
While we're on the subject, though, what films do you find spiritually inspirational? One of my all time favorite films is Alfonso Cuaron's Little Princess (1995). I'm not sure I would call it "spiritual," but I still find it moving, after all these years, after watching it all these times.
P.S. I hate that the word "evolution" or "evolve" has become used so frequently in "conciousness raising" circles to mean "more aware." Every time I hear the word "evolution" used inappropriately I feel like yelling, "RANDOM MUTATION!"
