Ebert's Little Rule Book
Oct. 30th, 2008 06:11 pmEbert has an excellent column on the ethics of criticism. I'm pleased to announce that I've largely arrived at these on my own, and I'm getting pickier. Which is a very good sign, though perfection is killing me in other areas of my life. Including the job search or lack there of. If you haven't heard from me lately it's because I'm still searching for the 'perfect' words. Note: I will respond to prodding or provocation.
BTW - I used to hate Ebert, but I have come to treasure him, especially as he faces the end of life. There's something so precious about the time he has left. I highly recommend his blog, which makes me feel as though there is something special... sacred even about human consciousness and our pathetic attempts at expression and immortality.
See also: Chet Raymo who is determined to bring a sort of sacramental wonder to the mysteries and discoveries of science. Usually he succeeds. Likely to make some of you itchy, but it always makes me feel like there is a kindred soul out there... should I ever have the courage to express my own inclinations. Warning: very heavy on the Thoreau... but the Great American Loser is getting a lot of traction these days.
