Gratitude
Because that last entry didn't sound particularly grateful, here's my list of thanks:
* The basics: food, shelter, warmth. Running water practically needs its own category. Every time I take a shower, I think of how lucky I am.
* My family. Even though they drive me crazy sometimes, I'd rather have them than not. And I have no doubt that they love me, even if sometimes they have funny ways of showing it.
* My friends. Okay, so there is a trend of friends vanishing or going cuckoo, but the ones that are left are pretty darn special!
* My sanity. I am finding hope again, and I can't say where it's coming from because nothing's really changed; but I'm grateful for this sense of spirit that is slowly returning to my life. Like water welling up in a spring assumed to be dry.
* And okay, I'll say it, I'm grateful for my job. Even though I spend most of my time hating it, I need it, and I know what it's like not to have one. This job is better than no job and it has adequately provided for my needs during this difficult time.
* Analgesics - life without simple pain killers would be a rough place
* Being a woman - I think I am incredibly lucky to be a woman living here and now. I am constantly filled with a sense of gratitude that this kind of life is allowed to me, that I am living something hard won by those that came before. Should I serve future generations so selflessly.
* The sky - a constant source of wonder. (I saw two meteors last night!)
* Music - another source of constant solace and wonder. I think it might be time to start making my own music again.
And I'll stop there before I start naming every little thing that comes to sight or mind.
