I just thought I'd mention that I reviewed the Printz winner earlier this year:

I'm not happy with the review and never would've picked the book as a winner; but it was an interesting book that will appeal to readers who have a taste for the wyrd. It was the Antarctic postscript to my Arctic mini-obsession last winter, in which I read the following trilogy of books that I continue to recommend:
Andrea Barrett's The Voyage of the Narwhal
Dan Simmons' The Terror
Barry Lopez's Arctic Dreams
The harsh and fragile environment of the arctic makes for an interesting and high-contrast/high-stakes setting for the issues of exploration.
