I doubt that any readers are Lessing fans, but just I'm posting this anyway because it interests me. They've got seven (female!) intellectuals doing an online response The Golden Notebook. I'm intrigued to see how the technological interface works out, in addition to what they have to say. Maybe someday people will ask me to do something like this. It makes me wonder if I should mark up my books more. I'm usually very careful about keeping books clean for their resale value, but I had the privilege of reading a book a friend had marked up... rather than distracting from the text, it made me feel like I was having a sort of conversation.

Also, just in case anyone is still worried about it... my dad's work is making payroll, again. After several weeks of being paid late, he got paid on time today.

Date: 2008-11-14 08:12 pm (UTC)I am about to review his Arthur book, which wasn't at all fantastical, but has a similar outlook to Hungry City.
I've often wondered if every author has an Arthur book. I mean, these are the stories from which we learned our arcs.
Also forthcoming: a review of the second Octavian Nothing volume, which has a VERY interesting premise. I feel it is not appropriate to reveal the premise (aside from boy raised in isolation to be studied by scientists) because that's part of the fun of reading the books. M.T. Anderson is an author to watch. His distopian futuristic novel FEED got a lot of attention, but I happen to be a big fan of one of his earlier novels, Burger Wuss. A tale of teen revenge and burger flipping jobs comes complete with a gang of graffiti artists who correct the grammar on road signs, and a condiment dispensing troll.

Date: 2008-11-14 08:34 pm (UTC)I've read a lot of the Arthur stuff but never the straigt forward ones (Sword in the Stone etc.) I think the first one's I read were Zimmer Bradley's then some other reinterpretations. I wonder how much that colors my fantasy/sci-fi consumption...
I was going to point you in the direction of the Typo Eradication Advancement League. But is seems their website is suffering from a case of judgment passed. (Slightly more info.)
