First I have to give a shout-out to
dr_tectonic who was kind enough to pick me up after work and go out for tea with me at the tea place in north Boulder that I was aware of, but never actually went to before: Pekoe
The place reminded me of NY (though not of my favorite tea spot in NY, which was The T Salon closely followed by a place around the corner, whose name I can no longer remember, but was an Indian tea spot with a fabulous Raj fusion menu.) Trendy decor and music and tea. Since I've gotten back to Boulder I've been surprised by the Mate craze, which hadn't really hit NY, yet. I remember mate from junior high spanish. I was so impressed with Argentina. Pekoe has a large selection of trendy mate drinks (agave sweetened... you know you're in Boulder when...) but seems on less sturdy footing when it comes to regular tea. (Speaking of which, one of the reasons I have never gone in there is that I am NOT a fan of Pekoe, which is one of the main ingredients in Lipton's blend.) Nevertheless, it was a good spot for after work conversation and I will have to go again to get a more thorough impression.
It was fun seeing him, exchanging books, and having a chat. I gave him two extra Moomin books I have lying around, as well as a copy of Jules Feiffer's Man on the Ceiling, which I recommend to just about everyone. It's one of the best books ever written on the subject of creativity and failure.
My brother called to talk a little more about the animation project he's working on. THEY ARE ACTUALLY PAYING HIM! which is incredibly exciting. It's not much, but it's enough to get him through another month, for which I am heartily thankful. He's also painting someone's house, a project that has taken forever because it keeps raining and is on very short deadline for the project.
Then my mom called, and I actually had some nice things to tell her about good things that are happening to me. She is exhausted at the end of her school year and looking forward to coming out here. Oddly, I'm looking forward to seeing her too.
Finally, I got an email this morning that I need to respond to, but I thought I would mention it to you all first...
